Depends on what specifically you want to do with cars.
If you want to start learning about cars, the best way to start off is to perform research. Scour the internet for information about things pertaining to what you love about cars, say, a specific make or model. Maybe you love certain companies because of what kind of cars they produce. Learn more about them, their past, present, and future.
Meet car enthusiasts who you can network with so that you can spend more time around cars. Go to car meets as often as possible. There might be a Cars & Coffee near you or a gathering just like Cars & Coffee but under a different name (like Cars and Caffeine or Gasoline and Caffeine). Approach owners of cars who are pulling up in cars you’d like to learn more about. If they don’t feel like talking to you, screw them. The enthusiasts you want to network with are the ones who are always open to discussion about their cars.
If you’re looking to get your hands dirty and have some hands on experience, be open about it. Maybe there are some owners who need a hand with something they might be doing over the weekend or near future? It might be a really simple task, but the knowledge gained gets you off into the right direction.
Are there any autocross events happening soon near you? Maybe there’s a race track within a 50-mile radius of you. If there is anything like those near you, check them out! Seeing sports cars in action is great, the smell of fuel and the sound of cars is a great way to have an awesome day.
This can be pretty overwhelming to do right off the bat as a novice. Don’t be intimidated. Right here on tumblr are two of my favorite guys who own and wrench on their own cars are that911 and Haris300 who have a wealth of knowledge. There’s also mekapaedia who can help with the engineering aspect of any questions you may have. I’m sure they can help steer you in the right direction more than I can. They’ll gladly answer any question you may have.
sorry if I’ve written this pretty terribly, I typed this up in a few minutes because I’m in a rush to be somewhere.
